On Sunday, October 8th Mitcham travelled to SE London to face Bromley 3 full of early in the season optimism.
In first attack Sam Wood, Frankie Neil, Sarah Broadberry and Matt Norman lined up. In defence Paul Franke, Will Reed, Nicole Williams and Flo Webb.
A difficult first half characterised by early season rust and the effects of a very hot sports hall resulted in a 4-2 deficit at half time. Sam Wood and Nicole Williams were the goal scorers.
Clear half time coaching instructions and some energy-inducing dried apricots spurred a resurgence. 4 goals in a row followed – 2 from Matt Norman, a penalty from Will and one from Flo gave Mitcham a narrow lead.
The game remained tight but with a couple of minutes left on the clock Mitcham were ahead by three. Nicole, now operating like a hot surgeon’s scalpel moving through room temperature margarine, had added a further three goals and a Sam Wood penalty meant Mitcham rounded out 10-7 winners.
Honourable mention to Rachel Biddle for her Mitcham debut and cameo performance.
