South London Korfball Mitcham were in action for the 7th week in a row and came away with a hard fought win, a 13-10 victory over an experienced Nomads 4 team.
SoLoKorf rang the changes, with Tom Higton, Giannis Sarrigiannis, Jess White and Caroline Banks starting in attack. Captain James McNaughton was joined in first defence by Chris Rennison, Sam Medcraft and Izzy Watterson. Nomads drew first blood and Jess “yellow kit” White pulled the home team level and changed the ends. Nomads went ahead again, and Sam Medcraft replied. The boys chipped in, with Tom Higton and Giannis bringing SoloKorf into a 4-2 lead. The teams traded goals, Nomads scored, Sam Medcraft got her second, Nomads scoreed again, and then Giannis and Izzy Watterson scored to give SoloKorf a 7-4 lead. SoloKorf made the first of 5 changes, brining Nicole Williams and Sarah Broadberry on for Sam Medcraft and Jess White. Nomads then went on to score 3 without reply putting the scores level at 7-7 going into half time.
Half time came and Chris Rennison made way for Edwin Huijberts. The substitute made an immediate impact scoring two goals. Giannis added a third before Nomads got a goal back. Captain McNaughton then got two more to take the score to 12-8. Giannis added his 4th of the match while Nomads got two more. A good, hard fought win.
