South London Korfball Balham had their third match, and second win, of the season, away, but at their home venue against local rivals Bec 4. Jennifer Leadsham started her first game in defence joined by Chris Rennison, new Balham stalwart Richard Smith-Uchotski and captain Izzy Watterson. In defence, Adam Bedford, Kingsley Ho, Alice Howard and Vitoria Franceshini.

Balham started off lively but wasteful. It took 4 minutes to register a goal – Izzy Watterson running in with a Richard Smith-Uchotski assist. Bec 4 got a goal back to swap the players over. Kingsley Ho used his height and experience around the post to get the next two goals. The first from a Vitoria interception, she quickly played the ball to the post and Kingsley slotted home. The second, a big cross court pass from Lesley found Kingsley around the post and the score was 1-3. The fourth goal was a carbon copy of the first with Izzy Watterson running past her player and being assisted by Richard Smith-Uchotski to leave the scores 1-4 at half time to Balham.

The second half saw Balham string together a number of multi-shot attacks, but without scoring. Bec got two goals back – one a monster long shot from Bec’s Josh Brown. Bec missed a penalty to bring the scores level. With 10 minutes left to play Kingsley scored a shot from around the korf with an assist from MVP Adam Bedford. The score would stay 5-3 to the end of the game. The last few minutes of the game were a nervy affair, with Balham losing the ball cheaply a few times but also coming close to a sixth goal.
