South London Korfball Mitcham played away at their home venue of Ernest Bevin and came way with a hard fought 11-16 win.

SoloKorf set up to match the opposition. This put Tom Higton, Tom Davies, Froeks Kamminga and Jess White in first attack, with Tom Higton being marked by Bec 3’s Alan Piper. Captain James McNaughton took first defence with Sam Medcraft, Edwin Huijberts and Alice Howard.

The first few minutes were a tense affair, with both teams probing a route goal. Tom Higton eventually broke the deadlock 9 minutes in with a running in shot assisted by Jess White. Bec 3 quickly equalised through Michelle Jhugroo. SoloKorf got two goals in front from their boys, both ably assisted by Sam Medcraft, to take the scores to 1-3. Bec 3 got one back, but Froeks Kamminga scored a running in shot on 15 minutes, assisted by Tom Higton. Alan Piper then won a penalty from the gentlest of touches and scored a distance shot from down town to bring the scores level at 4-4. A switch of ends saw the beginning of a 3 goal streak from SoloKorf. A missed penalty turned into a distance shooting opportunity for Froeks Kamminga. Tom Higton scored from distance to turn the ends around putting Alan Piper back into attack. Sam Medcraft scored a runner before Alan scored from as far away from the post as Ernest Bevin allows. Following the change of ends SoloKorf subbed Luke Broadberry on for James McNaughton and the teams traded goals, with Tom Davies closing the scoring for the first half with a shot off the back of the post without a rebounder. Good job it went in. The score was 6-8.

The second half got off to a flying start with Sam Medcraft scoring a distance shot. Bec 3 got a goal back, but Tom Higton and Froeks Kamminga scored from distance to take it to 7-11. James McNaughton and Edwin Huijberts changed places at the 30 minute mark, and Nicole Williams came on Alice Howard. Bec 3 brought it back to withing 3 before SoloKorf increased the lead to 5 with goals from Nicole Williams and a converted penalty from Tom Davies. Alice Howard was brought on for Froeks.  Bec 3 scored and forced the change over, SoloKorf rang the changes that rolling subs allows, bringing on Froeks for Nicole and Edwin for Luke. At the next whistle, Nicole came back on the pitch for Alice. Bec 3 narrowed the gap to 3 before Froeks got a runner. Bec 3 came back again to make it 11-14 but the game was capped off with a distance shot from Jess White and a fifth and final long shot from Froeks.
