South London Korfball’s first team made the journey north of the river to play Highbury 5. The team was much changed from last week as some players were unavailable. Edwin Huijberts, Luke Broadberry, Flo Webb and Nicole Williams started in attack, with Paul Franke, Liam Clarke, Jess White and Alex Chaffey in defence.

Mitcham started the scoring with Edwin scoring a running in shot. A missed penalty from South London led Highbury back into the game with a long shot.

About 15 minutes into the game, Luke cames off with a limp. Sarah Broadberry and Becky Torn came on for Jess and Nicole. Sarah Broadberry found her range with a few teasing long shots, a found the back of the plastic to make it 2-1. Down the other end, Edwin’s arm span makes up for being a boy down and does a great job in collecting and turning over the ball a number of times.

Becky and Flo both defend their opponents’ long shots, before Paul scores the first of his mid-distance shot to make it 3-1. Edwin tricks his two markers everyone and scores under the post to make it 4-1 and Flo scores from distance to make it 5-1 and a change of ends.

Alex Chaffey scored a “running in” shot around a congested post to make it 6-1 just before Nicole and Jess came on for Flo and Alex. Highbury got one back with a mid-range shot to make it 6-2 but Mitcham scored a long shot into a wobbling post to make it 7-2. Highbury made it 7-3, with Paul replying with his second of the game, then Highbury got their 4th to make it 8-4. Two long shots from Highbury made the game close at 8-6 before Paul got his third of the game. Another Highbury long shot made it 9-7 and the remaining action was a missed penalty from Edwin and South London saw the game out.
