South London Korfball’s Mitcham played Bromley 3 on Sunday 25th January. Both teams were level on points going into the game with Bromley 3 not having lost a match, until now. Captain Maisy Wainwright started in attack with Tom Greeves, Jess White and Edwin Huijberts. Matt Norman, Frankie Neil, Paul Franke and Alex Chaffey started in defence.
Bromley opened the scoring with a distance shot, but Maisy equalised with an (unconventional) penalty. Bromley retook the lead before Matt Norman’s long shot caused a change of ends and Jess took Mitcham into the lead. Bromley were awarded and scored a penalty before Alex Chaffey regained the lead with a long shot. Bromley equalised twice, but long shots from Tom and Paul regained the lead to make it 6-5. Bromley’s defence put pressure on Mitcham and they scored 3 unanswered to make it 6-8 just before half time.
Matt opened the second half with a running in shot. Bromley regained their 2 goal lead before 2 goals from Maisy (one another unconventional penalty) put the scores at 9-9. Bromley took the lead for the last time before long shots from Paul, Tom and Edwin made it 12-10 to the home side. Bromley got one back, but 2 more long shots from Paul and Tom opened up a goal lead at 14-11. Bromley closed the gap but 4 unanswered goals from Mitcham (long shots from Matt, Paul, and drop offs from Edwin and Tom) took the score to 18-12. Bromley got one back before Alex Chaffey scored her second of the game to make it 19-13. Bromley got two more before the end of the match to leave the scores at 19-15.
